Lately we have been dealing with an increasing number of attempts to manipulate product rankings. Note: each person is allowed to post one and only one review for each product. Exceptions can be made only under special circumstances when the reviewer feels that his earlier review must be corrected.
We have a sophisticated manipulation detection system in place and we will not tolerate any attempt to game the system and mislead consumers and our visitors. We reserve the right to delete any review that we feel is misleading or inappropriate and do that at our sole discretion. Thanks for understanding.
Also, from now on we require all reviews to be at least 100 words long. Short reviews, such as "a piece of junk" or "works as advertised" are not very helpful. Consider specifying more details. Elaborate on your location, the equipment you are using, reception quality of specific channels in your area. Check the word counter at the bottom when writing.

Summary: Converter better than top shelf 32 Toshiba Cinema Series TV tuner |
Nicely featured digital to analog converter with very sensitive scanner (missed nothing) which can be updated periodically without erasing the previous scan, handy signal strength meter which enables hacking antenna to improve weakest channels signal collection and theres a decent channel guide for the next 12 hours when the station has made it available. The S-Video output easily rivals the quality of the best premium channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Starz) from Direct TV Satellite. Free HDTV is the BOMB. Sound is way superior to analog or Direct TV. Over 35 channels scanned, its CD quality all the way. I get 17 channels in HD: mostly 1080i and a few in 720P. Half are in 5.1 channel Dolby, not just stereo which is also excellent. The TV just passed its 20th birthday and although I could buy a 50 plasma, it would be wrong to toss out the picture and sound quality on the 32 cathode ray TV now....its the best it has ever been in its 20 years. The Channel Masters picture and sound quality, along with the digital conversion has upgraded this older, fine TV from a 7 to a 9 out of 10. Now I have to wait until the TV fries itself before I justify replacing it! Great converter! |

Summary: unreliable and zero customer support |
I have two of these and neither powers on anymore. They were great for two years but now are just junk. Neither had been used a lot. I opened the top and checked the power supply voltages, which was right on. Others have reported the same problem. Customer service is nil. Recommendation: Stay away from Channel Master. I have had mixed feelings about this unit, as digital to analog converters generally have only RF output. Having S-video and composite video makes much more sense, since the idea of digital TV is to have better picture quality. The units even appear to be pretty well made. There just seems to be a design flaw and Channel Master just ignores their customers. |

Summary: Only one that works where I live. |
This is the ideal converter box for areas with signal problems.I live 20 miles from the towers in an area with lots of tall trees.I am using a 2 bay UHF antenna indoors. The picture using S-video is superb, far superior to other ones I tried.Save yourself a lot of headaches by spending a few extra $$ for this quality product.I tried several converters from different manufactures but the CM-7000 was the only one that locked on all the channels without the picture cutting in and out.The remote is very sturdy and well made and it uses Pioneer brand coding for easy programing to universal remotes. |

Summary: The best converter box I\ve tried. |
I live in the worst spot for tv reception. I\m behind a hill with trees. The other converter boxes I\ve tried are the Zenith DTT900 and the Insigna ns-dxa1. Both had picture cut out when the wind picked up and reception varied with the weather changes. The Channel Master cm 7000 not only gets more channels it also keeps a picture during windy days. I got a Antennas Direct Clearstreem 4 antenna,Winegard preamp,RG11 coax and the Channel Master cm 7000. I get all the Portland OR. channels but one, and that\s because the Antennas Direct Clearstreem 4 can only pick up uhf and the very highest vhf channels. With a good vhf antenna I\m sure I can get all channels. The biggest improvement I had was when I hooked up the Channel Master converter box. |
