Rating: 1 (very poor) Nickname: Don Rohn Date: 2009-08-18
Summary: Unit operated reliably on 2 occasions then crashed
I purchased 2 of the units early on in the program for use in our motor home which has analog sets that are too new to replace. I hooked them up and tried them immediately then put them away untill the mandated switch to digital. Last month we took a trip to a State Park outside a digital viewing area but within range of Canadian analog stations. They worked fine on analog passthrough but when I tried to switch back to digital the set would not switch. I talked to the retailer where I purchased them and learned that the problem was a common one with the early Philcos and to contact the manufacturer. I did and learned that since the unit is over a year old they will not stand behind it. One is still functioning but not for long I suspect. I will have to replace both but it will not be with a Funai product, nor will I ever consider a product manufactured or distributed through them. A VERY dissatisfied customer

Summary:
I tried to find out the life of my Philco TB100HH9 converter box. I believe this information should be received before purchase. Anyway, we bought it in June 2009 and it is now dead. Is this the nature of the beast? Does it have to be replaced every 13 months? We liked it until it died. We didn\t mind using two remotes to get all of the functions that we needed. We are trying a less expensive brand on another old TV. We might be able to find out the life of that one and change all of them. Why is there built-in obsolescence? Is this to force us to buy new TVs?

Rating: 3 (average) Nickname: anonymous Date: 2009-06-27
Summary: Needs (better) program guide
It works, but the menus could be so much better. These days user interfaces are everywhere (household + industrial devices) so I don't see much of an excuse in not having a very good one. Pay a programmer a little more and maybe put in a little more memory. This would add negligible cost to the product. I'm disappointed, but it's not worth buying another one. On the bright side setup was a breeze and the picture is good.

Philco TB100HH9 Review #3
Rating: 1 (very poor) Nickname: anonymous Date: 2009-01-17
Summary: Plastic doorstop
This box is useless. I forked over [...] bucks with the government coupon. This box picks up less channels and I got so frustrated I called a local station to see if they had gone to digital. They told me they have. The box wont pick it up and there is no way to use my equipment like my dvd player or video game console because the converter box takes up the AV cables. awful product and not worth [...] bucks.

Philco TB100HH9 Review #4
Rating: 4 (good) Nickname: anonymous Date: 2008-09-09
Summary: Works great, has a great feature
Picked up two of these yesterday and I'm very happy with them.

They have one great feature in particular - through the menu you can access a signal strength meter. With the meter on, you can adjust your antenna for the best reception and it tells you the strength as you make adjustments. It takes the guess work out of it!

I have a dvd player with a built in converter on one of our tvs. I temporarily plugged in one of these boxes just to find the best antenna position and now we get several more channels.

The only thing I don't like is the remote. But I plan on programming a universal remote to work the box so I never have to look at their ugly one again.
